What is Project sTREEt?
While maps may seem exclusively like a geographer’s best friend, the potential that mapmaking can have on creating an environmental difference is largely unexplored. Project sTREEt highlights the ways that we can use mapmaking as a new outlet to create a lasting impact on our world. Whether it is facilitating the preservation of biodiversity or predicting rising rates of urbanization, maps allow us to explore and expose the environmental problems that demand a solution.
By mapping the existing infrastructure in secluded areas around the world onto maps, we can gain a better understanding of the rate of development of different places, allowing us to more accurately calculate an estimate of the world carbon footprint.
